The Maria Creek Management Working Group (MCMWG) has been established to investigate and provide information to Council on issues related to the management of Maria Creek, including the marine and estuarine areas and the boat launching facility.
The MCMWG will be an advisory group to Council on a range of strategic issues relating to identified aspects of Maria Creek. The MCMWG will focus on activities which investigate options to improve the management of Maria Creek including, but not limited to:
- Estuarine health and water quality;
- Water management includes tidal, flooding and drainage management;
- Sand and sea wrack management; and
- The maintenance and management of the boat launching facility.
The role of the MCMWG is to:
- Provide guidance, advice and technical knowledge that helps Council make informed decisions relating to key aspects the group is focusing on;
- Share expertise as required;
- Assist Council in the decision-making process to mitigate or treat risks and other issues that arise throughout the investigations of the working group; and
- Provide recommendations to Council which assist to underpin decision making.
Membership of the Maria Creek Management Working Group shall consist of 8 representatives:
- Councillor, Kingston District Council (Chair)
- Director Infrastructure & Operations, Kingston District Council
- Kingston Recreational Fishers Association Inc
- South Eastern Water Conservation & Drainage Board
- Limestone Coast Landscape Board
- Burrandies Aboriginal Corporation
- Kingston Professional Fishermans Association
- Community Member
Individuals will contribute their subject matter expertise, personal experience or both, and it is expected that this will result in diverse representation and robust discussion.
Updates, progress and findings of the MCMWG will be shared with Council and posted on this page for information.
